In-room information
Welcome to Hunday Manor
Osprey Management Group Limited has recently added the Hunday Manor to its portfolio of properties and we are very excited to share that we have an ambitious one-year transition plan to carry out an extensive refurbishment of the Hotel and its gardens.
Parts of the Hotel date back many years, so naturally our programme will be sympathetic to the history of the building but nevertheless will ensure it has all of the 21st century facilities, technology and amenities to ensure our guests are comfortable and have an exceptional visit.
We like our guests to feel that while staying with us you are ‘Always Among Friends’ so if there is anything we can do to make your stay with us more comfortable, please inform us and we will do our upmost to help.
We hope the following guide provides you with all the information you need to make the most of your stay with us. If you need anything further, our reception team are only too happy to help.

House History…
Parts of Hunday Manor date back to the 18th Century. Built in 1760, it was originally a manor house called High Lodge. Once owned by the Trench Family, the family also used the building for Sunday School meetings.
Between 1951 and 1968 it became a National Coal Board miner’s rescue centre. At the time of the Winscales Rescue Centre’s establishment, there were 13 coal mines at work in the area. In 1973 the Solway Colliery in Workington was closed, and Haig Pit in Whitehaven became the only remaining coal mine in the area.
It’s only in more recent times that the Hunday Manor became a country house hotel. We at Osprey are delighted to welcome this lovely old property to our family of inns.
